Overview Fields

The following definitions apply to the fields used in both the FFIEC Census Online and the FFIEC Geocoding and Mapping System. All fields are derived from the same data as the FFIEC flat file, but there are significantly more fields available in the flat files. For more information, please see FFIEC Flat Files

Tract List

The Census tract list is a list of all Census tracts in the U.S. and the county, MSA/MD (or non-MSA), and state in which they lie. It also lists the tract income level for each tract. The list incorporates the OMB boundary changes for each year and is broken out by year so that users can see how each geography has changed over time.

Overview

To support the collection, reporting, and analysis of HMDA and CRA data, the FFIEC publishes certain census, income, and other data for geographies. The FFIEC geography-based data are updated as required by changes in area delineations by the Office of Management and Budget (OMB). Because these data are updated periodically by the FFIEC, the FFIEC data may differ from data obtained directly from the Census Bureau. These data are intended to be used with HMDA and CRA data only and may not be suitable for other analytical purposes.

Flat Files

The FFIEC Census flat files are a convenient method of accessing and analyzing the FFIEC census data that are used to create the HMDA and CRA Aggregate and Disclosure Reports. They contain over 1,000 fields of census data and are updated annually to reflect changes to MSA/MD boundaries announced by the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) and CRA Distressed/Underserved Census Tracts as announced by the Federal banking regulatory agencies.
