  • What is NIC?

The National Information Center (NIC) provides comprehensive information on banks and other institutions for which the Federal Reserve has a supervisory, regulatory, or research interest including both domestic and foreign banking organizations operating in the U.S. The NIC Public Web Site is an interface to the NIC data, which may be accessed by selecting “Institution Search","USBA Search", or “HCs > $10B” from the menu bar.

What system configurations do I need to view reports?

    Step 1:
This site was designed for Internet Explorer versions 5.x and higher. To check your version, go to Help > About Internet Explorer.

    Step 2:
You will need to have Acrobat Reader 9.x or higher installed as a browser plug-in. A list of your Internet Explorer plug-ins is provided under Tools > Manage add-ons. Look for the Adobe PDF Reader plug-in and confirm the version is 9.x or higher.

When will current data be available?

Data, including revisions, are updated daily during the business week. Financial statements are posted on a flow basis, and are updated if revisions are made by the reporting institutions. Each data flow is processed on a slightly different schedule.

    How often are data updated?

Any change that may have occurred to an institution’s attributes such as name and address, are updated daily Monday through Friday. Financial data including revisions to historical data are also updated daily Monday through Friday.

How do I save a report to my hard drive?

From the reports download page, right-click on the link "Your request for a financial report is ready" and selecting the "Save Target As.." option to save the file to the location on your computer. Click here for help on creating and downloading reports.

What happened to the Top 50 HCs list?

Effective May 6, 2014, the Top 50 HCs list page was replaced by the HC’s > $10B list. Quarterly data will be published once all institutions have reported their data.

A drop down list now allows users to view up to 5 years of historical data.

Note: Historical lists reflect the data as it was reported during that quarter. Institutions may have changed their name and/ or structure since the report period. Details of institution changes can be found on the Institution History link on the Institution profile page. To access historical information as well as other available reports, you may click on the institution’s name within this list.

What information is available in the Bulk Data Download?

For details regarding the tables and data currently available via the Bulk Data Download, please refer to the Bulk Data Download Data Dictionary.

Will additional information be made available via the Bulk Data Download capability?

We are currently looking to expand the availability of data in a bulk format. If you have feedback regarding the format and type of data provided, please feel free to provide feedback via our feedback link, which is also available at the bottom of the Bulk Data Download page.

What information is available in the FR Y-15 snapshots?

The FR Y-15 Snapshots provide data from individual Banking Organization Systemic Risk Report (FR Y-15) submissions within a single file. For information on the format and structure of the data files, please see the FR Y-15 Snapshots User Guide.
