General Notice Poster

Regulation C requires a lending institution to post a general notice about the availability of HMDA data in the lobby of its home office and of each branch office located in a metropolitan area.

For 2002 and 2003 HMDA data, the suggested language for the notice is provided in Regulation C effective for data collected through 2003 (Appendix A to Part 203, Paragraph III.F). Beginning with 2004 HMDA data collected, the suggested wording has been revised slightly with the inclusion of "ethnicity" to reflect changes in the regulation effective January 1, 2004. The staff commentary effective January 1, 2004, suggest, but does not require, the following wording:

The HMDA data about our residential mortgage lending are available for review. The data show geographic distribution of loans and applications; ethnicity, race, sex, and income of applicants and borrowers; and information about loan approvals and denials. Inquire at this office regarding the locations where HMDA data may be inspected. To receive a copy of these data send a written request to [address].
