Every Call Report data item is defined in extensible business reporting language (XBRL) format and assigned a unique mnemonic. This process eases reliance on line item number references and gives the database greater flexibility and functionality. The CDR maintains metadata, which describes valid Call Report data elements for each reporting period.
The FFIEC makes edit criteria publicly available both to financial institutions and to vendors that market software used to prepare Call Report data, so that financial institutions can identify and correct errors before submitting their Call Report data. This business model requires financial institutions to complete the edit resolution process before their data are accepted by the CDR. To help financial institutions resolve edit failures the Agencies have posted Guidelines for Resolving Edits.
The agencies recommend submitting your data as early as possible to allow sufficient time to correct any issues that may arise during submission.
