PRIVATE MORTGAGE INSURANCE NATIONAL AGGREGATE INFORMATION SHEET

THE PRIVATE MORTGAGE INSURANCE COMPANIES HAVE ARRANGED THROUGH THE FEDERAL FINANCIAL INSTITUTIONS EXAMINATION COUNCIL (FFIEC) TO PREPARE THE NATIONAL AGGREGATE REPORTS ON BEHALF OF THE INSTITUTIONS REPORTING INFORMATION ON THE DISPOSITON OF APPLICATIONS FOR MORTGAGE INSURANCE. THEY ARE FACSIMILE REPORTS OF THE PRIVATE MORTGAGE INSURANCE (PMI) DATA IN TABLE FORMAT. DEPENDING ON THE REPORTED DATA, THERE CAN BE UP TO 21 TABLES, SHOWING THE NUMBER AND DOLLAR AMOUNT OF LENDING, CROSS-TABULATED BY LOAN, APPLICANT, AND GEOGRAPHIC CHARACTERISTICS.INDIVIDUAL INSTITUTIONS' DATA CANNOT BE IDENTIFIED IN THE NATIONAL AGGREGATE REPORTS.  THE PMI NATIONAL AGGREGATE REPORTS ARE AVAILABLE ON THE WEB ONLY (HTTP://WWW.FFIEC.GOV/REPORTS.HTM).

AS IN THE PAST, TO CATEGORIZE CENSUS TRACTS BY INCOME WE RELY ON THE 2000 CENSUS TO DETERMINE THE MEDIAN FAMILY INCOME FOR EACH MSA/MD.FOR CATEGORIZING APPLICANTS OR BORROWERS, WE RELY ON INFORMATION OBTAINED FROM THE DEPARTMENT OF HOUSING AND URBAN DEVELOPMENT (HUD) FOR AN UPDATED ESTIMATE OF THE MEDIAN FAMILY INCOME FOR EACH MSA/MD.

CHANGES FOR 2004 DATA

THE HMDA REGULATIONS WERE REVISED TO REQUIRE CHANGES IN DATA REPORTING FOR DATA BEGINNING IN CALENDAR YEAR 2004.THE REVISIONS REQUIRE REPORTING OF NEW DATA AND SOME CHANGES IN THE REPORTING OF EXISTING DATA.IN ADDITION, THE FORMATS FOR THE NATIONAL AGGREGATE TABLES HAVE BEEN REVISED, AND NEW TABLES HAVE BEEN ADDED.

THE PRINCIPAL CHANGES TO THE PMI NATIONAL AGGREGATE TABLE FORMATS ARE AS FOLLOW.NEW TABLES 4-7, 5-7, 7-7, AND 8-7 SHOW DATA ON MANUFACTURED HOUSING LOANS.THE TABLE 6 SERIES IS DELETED.TABLES 9 AND 10 INCLUDE SEPARATELY ITEMIZED DATA ON MANUFACTURED HOUSING LOANS. THE NEW TABLE 12-1 SHOWS DATA ON DISPOSITION OF APPLICATIONS FOR MORTGAGE INSURANCE FOR MANUFACTURED HOUSING LOANS.THE NEW SUMMARY TABLES A1 AND A2 SHOW DATA ON DISPOSITION OF APPLICATIONS FOR MORTGAGE INSURANCE BY LOAN TYPE.

IN ADDITION, THE DATA IN THE TABLES ARE AFFECTED BY REVISIONS TO THE DEFINITION OF "REFINANCING." ALSO, THROUGHOUT THE TABLES, THE RACE AND ETHNICITY CATEGORIES HAVE BEEN REVISED TO CONFORM TO GUIDANCE ADOPTED BY THE OFFICE OF MANAGEMENT AND BUDGET (OMB).

FINALLY, NOTE THAT THE TABLES ARE BASED ON THE REVISED MSA/MD BOUNDARIES THAT WERE ANNOUNCED BY THE OFFICE OF MANAGEMENT AND BUDGET IN BULLETINS PUBLISHED ON JUNE 6, 2003 AND FEBRUARY 18, 2004, AND THAT TOOK EFFECT, FOR HMDA PURPOSES, STARTING IN 2004.THE REVISIONS MAY AFFECT YEAR-OVER-YEAR COMPARISONS OF DATA IN SOME CASES.
